Woodlands resident and author, CaDori, recently celebrated the release of a new book to empower women at BookExpo and BookCon 2017 in New York. The first-time author enjoyed the opportunity to meet a diverse selection of top authors during the event, including actor and comedian Kevin Hart, who she provided a copy of her book.
Her new book, Women Put Yourselves First and Be Happier, offers practical advice, based on real life experiences, to help women and girls address issues and achieve balance in their lives.
The book was inspired by the words of the author’s son, Bobbie (Dougie), who died in a tragic motorcycle accident in 2010. “He always told me ‘Make yourself happy first Mom’, shared CaDori.
Conversations with countless women through the years fueled the mother of five’s passion to share that same message in her new book with other women who put their needs on the back burner to support others.
“I realized that regardless of whatever financial, racial or social background women are from, we all share some commonalities, of which putting others first in our lives the majority of the time, was definitely one,” said CaDori.
The book aims to positively impact the lives of women who struggle to balance family life and careers as well as the young girls who may be modeling their examples.
“I think one of the biggest mistakes that we women make is not including our own desires in the process. We oftentimes put everyone else’s wants and needs as a priority and we don’t even put ourselves on the list,” shared CaDori.
It is a selfless commitment the new author believes comes at a high price.
“When we constantly fulfill our children, husband or partners, and even our jobs’ needs as primary most of the time, that puts us at risk for having health problems as time goes on. There are only so many hours in each day, so we have to prioritize each day and include ourselves,” said CaDori.
The author has already garnered positive feedback on her book from one reader who described it as uplifting and an absolute gem.
“Over the years, I have read a great many inspirational pieces of literature directed towards the modern woman, however; I doubt I have ever picked up and been completely uplifted by a book as I was when I started reading this wonderful treatise of liberation for women in a time when we all, regardless of gender, need to be reminded of the importance of womankind. This book comes as a welcome respite, emphasizing on how significant it is for women today to focus on their own beings, their own strength. It is no surprise that even in such progressive times; women face much greater hurdles in society, as compared to men. Having read this book, I somehow feel that despite everything holding them back, women do indeed have the power to overcome and rise above, to liberate as well as exalt themselves. I recommend every woman to read this book as it is an absolute GEM. Two Thumbs Up!

CaDori encourages women to reevaluate their day-to-day activities and the people that they include in their innermost circle, advice she has begun to take in her own life. “I have also placed myself at the top of the majority of my to-do lists the majority of the time. I now hold myself accountable for my own well-being both physically and mentally,” shared CaDori.
A registered nurse of 20 years, she has encountered hundreds of women who have shared that they have high blood pressure, heart disease and obesity caused by stress attributed to unbalanced schedules and relationships in their lives. She also has seen a number of women unfortunately lose their lives as a result of not taking care of themselves while taking care of everyone else.
After reading her book, CaDori hopes that women and girls walk away knowing:
1. You are the most important person in your life.
2. You must prioritize your health and well-being first.
3. The importance of loving yourself first.
4. No one will treat you better than you treat yourself.
5. You can do whatever you choose to do.
An avid reader of different genres of books, CaDori enjoys cooking and watching movies and also has published two cookbooks, the latest, titled, “Delicious Meals by CaDori” featuring the southern comfort foods she grew up enjoying in her childhood home of Alabama.
