Wendy Jones, founder of The Secret Place International Ministries and Book Club, hosted the 2014 “I’m Every Woman Empowerment & Scholarship Conference” at the Crown Plaza Hotel on Sept. 20, bringing together a powerhouse group of women from every walk of life ready to take their dreams to the next level.

The organization  models what it challenges participants to do, says Jones.

“When we ask the question, What do you see?; we have evaluated ourselves. When we ask our participants to conquer and live dreams; we have geared up. When we say to our participants make it happen; we are making it happen.  And, when we say Next Level; we move in that direction.  What we say, you see! Our 2014 conference was representation of it; and members and participants together made it happen,” Jones said.

Speakers presented on a range of topics to help women become professionally, physically, financially and spiritually fit, and included Anetta Parker, wife of Lionel Parker Jr., senior pastor of Greater New Grove Christian Worship Center; Dorian Patton, corporate HR professional and co-owner of Ideal Enterprises; Ericka Burel, owner of Burel Credit Consulting, and Nathan and Lesa Hill, asst. instructors at Houston High Stepper Dance Troupe.

Jones and members of her executive staff also awarded scholarships to four “Visionaries in the Making”.  Award recipients included Andrew Craig Bobet, a student from Texas Tech University, majoring in international business, Marion Louis Ray III from Louisiana State University, majoring in accounting, Deiondre’ T. Jones of Texas State University, majoring in sports & business management and Kiera Hunt of Huston-Tillotson University, majoring in music.

Monica Pierre, an Emmy-award winning New Orleans journalist and radio talk show host, called the conference an “awesome event.”

“I could not imagine being anywhere, today, but right here.  I do attend many conferences and empowerment sessions, but this is a unique one that Wendy Jones has put together. There are so many elements of encouragement and practical application on how we can all go to the next level, including getting out of our own comfort zones and also having the confidence and the clarity to take our dreams to the next level,” said Pierre.

A variety of vendors were on hand to set up their wares at the empowerment conference promoting products ranging from jewelry and cosmetics to creative designs and homes.

“A Changed Mind = A Changed Life”, by author Rachel Riles, was honored as Book of the Year by book club members.
