Bravo Media has followed its #1 rated show “Real Housewives of Atlanta” with a new docu-series, “To Rome for Love,” which premiered January 2018. The show features love expert Diann Valentine who, in her travels abroad, noticed that black women were adored by Italian men, so she embarks on a mission to help single ladies who can’t find a good man in America. Valentine takes five black women to Italy to search for love, teaching them to move beyond the stigmas and stereotypes they face in the United States and seek companionship abroad with Rome’s most eligible bachelors.
Cast member Shay Atkins is Houston resident who was attracted to the show as a way to find an authentic relationship. As a self-professed hopeless romantic who tends to settle for bad boys that are not worthy of her, she was ready to break the cycle of dead-end relationships for herself and her daughter. As one of the most outspoken cast members on the show, Atkins is building up a strong following and has planned a watch party to connect with her fans and supporters in person.
“The show is a healing opportunity for women all over the world. It isn’t about race, it’s a journey of love, which looks different to every person,” Atkins said. “I’m hosting this watch party because I’m from Chicago but am in love with my new city of Houston. The show was a life-changing experience, and I want to share it with the city.”
The event will be held on Sunday, January 28th from 6pm-10pm at DuVin Pintor, 1401 Caroline St, Houston, TX 77002 and hosted by DJ GT Mayne from 97.9 The Box/102.1 FM. Attendees will enjoy red carpet photos, live viewing of Sunday’s episode with post-show Q&A featuring cast members Atkins and Nakita McGraw, complimentary cocktails, and a sampling of Atkins’ favorite Italian cuisine. Event sponsors include DuVin Pintor, Hidden Treasures Boutique, Amazing Lash Studio, EADO Car Wash, Mattie Zarena Whitfield, and Doing Far More.
Atkins is an award-winning chef who settled down in Houston to serve as a restaurant consultant. She won $10,000 in Black Enterprise’s Elevator Pitch Competition in 2010 and launched her own business, My Creative Cuisine, a mobile and catering service. She is currently the Executive Chef and owner of Celebrity Chef Shay, Inc. which provides gourmet meal prep and consulting, and the Sunday event will also serve as a re-launch of her Chef Shay brand.
