The Ensemble Theatre will host an opening night performance of author and playwright Melda Beaty’s “Front Porch Society” on May 11, 2017 at 3535 Main St, Houston, Texas 77002.

The world premiere event will take audience members back to the eve of Barack Obama’s 2008 election and its impact on four elderly women in Marks, Mississippi.

The play centers on Carrie Honey, the town’s “overseer,” as she grieves the anniversary of her son’s tragic death on the eve of Obama’s election. After numerous failed attempts to seek justice, Carrie has grown bitter and lost interest in life’s celebrations, until a scandal at the cemetery rocks this historic day, and a past secret is revealed that somehow restores her faded faith.

Join the Ensemble cast, directed by Eileen J. Morris, as the drama and hilarious antics of four little old women ensure that this small rural town will never be the same as they set out to uncover a scandal.

The play runs May 11 – June 4, 2017.
