HOUSTON – Nov 15, 2017 – Houston playwright Michelle Renee Taylor is bringing the characters from her family comedy “Mrs. Opal” back to the stage for two nights only. The stageplay received accolades during its premiere showing in August 2016 at the Screenwriters Houston 10 X 10 Festival. The cast has been reassembled for this extended version of the play.
Directed by Kelvin Douglas, this sophomore run of “Mrs. Opal” will begin at 7 p.m. on Dec. 2 and 3 p.m. on Dec. 3 at the Midtown Art Center, 3414 La Branch, Houston, Texas 77004.
The play centers around the main character, Mrs. Opal (played by Ruby Duffy) and her family as they work through the family dynamics and duties after an unexpected change of life for the matriarch. Join the cast on a hilarious journey as they find out who will have to step up, whose toes get stepped on, and who might have to get to stepping!
“We brought this extended version of “Mrs. Opal” to the stage due to popular demand. We all have a Mrs. O type in our families that we can relate to, so this is a perfect family outing showing real-life situations that shake us up but ultimately bring us closer than ever,” said playwright Michelle R. Taylor. “As life hurls twists of fate and unforeseen events, one thing is for sure, Mrs. O has no problem keeping it real in the name of fun. I invite everyone to come out and have a great time.”
The cast and crew includes: Sheronica Jones as Mrs. Opal’s daughter Michelle, Joseph Doucette as Mrs. Opal’s son Joe, Veronica Carroll as Mrs. Opal’s sister-in-law Aunt Girthie, Patrick Brown as Mrs. Opal’s son Walter, Sonya Gooden as Mrs. Opal’s granddaughter Ebone, Isaac George as Mrs. Opal’s grandson Darius and Dave Shepard as the police officer, stage manager Ashley Hasker, and sound technician Corey Bright.
