Dominique Leonard Entertainment presents a new stage play, Secret, Marriage and Vows at 7 p.m. on June 24 at the Jewish Community Center, 5601 S. Braeswood, Houston, Texas.
The play takes an insightful look at family, love and morals as the Johnson Family struggles to remain unified after the death of the family matriarch. Held together by Mr. Johnson, an old school dad with old school morals, the family deals with issues that threaten the family bond but lean on their love for one another to keep them strong.
Writer and director, Dominique Leonard, wrote his debut stage play after experiencing his own life hardships including a period of incarceration.”In that time I had to surrender myself … and let go of my thinking and go to God and lay before him,” said Leonard. “This play is inspired by the thoughts and creation of what came to me in my hardship. Every vision came when I surrendered to God.”
Leonard also gained earlier inspiration and insights for his own creative journey as barber to Houston native and acclaimed four-time national championship playwright Je’Caryous Johnson, recipient of the 2007 NAACP Trailblazer Award.
“Being around him and watching his expertise, I didn’t know it would groom me one day for what was to come in my life,” said Leonard.
He hopes his play conveys the real issues that families go through and helps married couples walk away from the play looking at their spouses in a different light.
In his riveting, “must-see” stage play, Leonard shows how families can prevail even in the face of challenges.
“We all have struggles and with God you can win,” said Leonard.
