Fun With Friends is hosting the 4th annual “FUGLY: The Ugly Sweater Christmas Party” on Dec. 17 at Be Electric Studios, 1298 Willoughby Ave. in Brooklyn, NY while benefiting communities in Haiti impacted by Hurricane Matthew.
“Our hopes are to uplift their spirits by donating as many of the much-needed supplies that we possibly can. We just want to give back,” said Jamal George, one of the company’s founders.
Coordinators will collect non-perishable food items at the door and use a portion of ticket sales to ship supplies to Haiti. This year’s event kicks off at 9 p.m. with tunes by DJ Ernz, an open bar, a Santa station to take photos with Santa and tons of holiday cheer, according to organizers.
The idea for creating fun-filled experiences for friends to share was conceived by George in 2011 after dabbling in the event planning field.
“I fell in love with the events world and wanted to get more into the space,” said George. “I came up with the name Fun With Friends and we kept expanding and birthing new ideas from there but we wanted to do events outside of your typical parties.”
According to George, when he and his friends set out to organize and plan the first FWF event, they were only trying to capture the essence of what it is to have Fun with Friends. Over 50 events later, the goal remains the same: forging new relationships, strengthening the foundations of the old while simply having fun.
“The formula is simple but the product is an explosion of joy, laughter, & a NYC experience unlike any other,” shared George.
In a short 5 year time span, the FWF brand has grown and expanded and received an overwhelming response and support from the community.
The event planning business also has been featured in Time Out NY, NY Daily News and Essence, and other publications, for its out of the box and fun event experiences.
“It started out with about 40 friends attending an event to a brand with an expected number of 500 friends for this particular event,” said George.
FWF hosts year-round events, including intimate special events, panel discussions and speed dating around Valentine’s Day, Friends with Talent Showcases, as well as pampering event sessions for women during Women’s History Month.
In the coming years, George would like to see Fun With Friends expand outside of New York City and continue to grow.

“If you have an idea and you believe it enough, just do it! Do it – don’t just sit on the idea. Get it done. Don’t give up and be persistent.”
