Prince, the legendary singer, songwriter, instrumentalist, and actor, was found dead in an elevator at his Paisley Park estate on April 21 according to news reports. The singer had been suffering from the flu in recent weeks, forcing him to cancel recent performances according to reports.
The talented performer left his mark on the music industry with his eclectic musical style from R&B to pop to soul and funk. His 1984 Purple Rain album stayed No. 1 on the Billboard charts for 24 consecutive weeks. The movie of the same name won an Academy Award.
Many on social media are paying tribute to the iconic singer who has joined the ranks of talented performers who have gone to soon. He was 57.
Following the announcement of the singer’s death, the official website Prince.org was temporarily down due to the overwhelming numbers of visitors attempting to access the site according to managers of the site, who noted:
“It’s a testament to Prince’s influence and popularity as well as unique ability to touch people that we sadly can’t handle the worldwide interest right now. The prince.org family mourns, and wishes peace and love to his family of all kinds. He certainly will be eternal in the minds of his fans.”
