Chris Rock delivers at 88th Academy Awards

(Last Updated On: March 2, 2016)

It was a night of glitz and glam at the 88th Academy Awards ceremony Sunday night  at the Dolby Theater in Hollywood, Ca. from the red carpet arrivals to the televised broadcast of the film industry’s biggest night.

Chris Rock, the show’s presenter, took the stage and wasted no time in addressing the elephant in the room with respect to Hollywood’s lack of diversity in nominations in recent years as well as the overall lack of opportunity for actors of color in the industry.

After delivering his no-holds bar commentary, Rock also expressed his disagreement with Jada Pinkett Smith’s call for a boycott of the awards show. The comedian then went on to do what he does best and shared his cinematic take (spoof) on what some of the top films of the year would have looked like with African Americans in key and supporting roles.

From launching an on-air Girl Scout Cookies campaign for his daughter’s troop to his take-it-to-the streets interviews with Compton-area movie-govers on their views on this year’s Academy Award nominees to Leonardo DiCaprio’s Best Actor in a Motion Picture first-time Oscar-win, Rock delivered his unique blend of cutting-edge humor mixed with a message while still preserving the celebratory mood for the evening’s nominees and winners.
