The 2nd Annual IED Awards produced by Glamsense Divas and juSSoul Productions was yesterday Sunday, June 1st, and took place at the beautiful Galapagos Art Space, a 9,000 square foot Obie and Building Award winning cultural venue located in DUMBO Brooklyn, NY. The evening which got off to a late start was a star studded event bringing out the who is who in beauty, fashion, and entertainment, to celebrate, play and network in a fashionable way.
Hosted by reality TV star Tara Wallace of VH1’s Love & Hip Hop New York and comedian Jonathan Martin, the event kicked off with models working the runway in colorful flowy and sexy resort wear from Kahnami Creations, and exotic swimwear from Petals Exclusives. Swag bags were sponsored by My Lifestyle Magazine, Vera Moore Cosmetics, Debbie’s Sweet Treat and White Towel Services. As we waited for the award ceremony to get going DJ Toni K entertained guests as they shopped the vendor booths and took in the art showcase on the third floor with hors d’oeurves and appetizers catered by Mango and Country Kitchen Restaurants.
Awards went to Vera Moore of Vera Moore Cosmetics (and EM columnist), celebrity makeup artist Diane Pottinger who accepted via video message, celebrity shoe designer Jiton Greene and celebrity stylist Michael Barnett for their contribution in Image industry. Jamaican actor Paul Campbell, producer Lanny Gee, promoter Derrick Sanders, producer Femi Ojetunde, and NY Giants Mario Manningham who accepted via video message received the Entertainment awards. The Distinction Awards went to actress and model Melyssa Ford, author and entreperneur Jean Alerte, dentist Dwight E. Williams, business mentor Tani Chambers, and Elizabeth Ortiz of MY Lifestyle Magazine. Performances included a poetry tribute to the late Maya Angelou, a musical tribute to pop icon the late Whitney Houston by Katlyn Nichol who electrified the room with her voice, and a performance from the young Love Jones Girlz who were recently coming off tour.
Among the attendees was Tanya Jackson, niece of Michael Jackson who presented the Humanitarian Award to Jean Alerte. The IED Awards founder and diva Madonna Williams, closed the show with a message of empowerment, encouraging the audience to chase their dreams and never let anyone or anything stop them from dreaming big.
