Embracing Her Natural Beauty:
I decided to fully embrace my hair once I actually realized that it (in it’s natural state) was not society’s idea of ‘good hair,’ so I had to learn to make do with what I had. My hair was always pretty long and fast growing when relaxed. I danced for sports teams at home in Louisiana, so I loved having the ability to whip and swing (my own) hair. I had a bad coloring experience which caused my long thick locks to fall so I decided to stray away from the chemicals. I do miss the ‘whip-action’ and body but I totally embrace my fro’!

Hair Regimen:
I’m pretty basic with hair. I do wear extensions while trying to grow my hair out to protect it. When not wearing them, I’ll rock the fro, a puff, or a twist-out. I really need live tutorials and classes on styling though. No, Seriously. Somebody Help! Lol!

Embracing Her Natural Beauty:
I went natural August of 2010.

Hair Regimen:
I normally wear wash and go’s, so for my daily routine. I spritz my hair with my “concoction” (my fav. detangler/oil/water) then I use my fav. moisturizer (shea moisture hair milk or my shea butter concoction) then curl definer (Curly Curl Cream by Tahliah Wajjid) and then I’m done! I might use a little ecostyler gel on my edges.

It’s sort of a funny story. Hate is a very strong word, but that’s how I feel about the beauty shop dryer – lol. I have been natural for almost 8 years, but it all started from my dislike of the dryer. Another reason is that I would torture myself (with the dryer) and the next day after a good work out it was back curly again. So I stopped wasting my money and really liked what I saw in the mirror. It made me feel free and, after all, not many women can get away with such a short haircut. I’m thankful for the perfect head for this short of a cut.

Hair Regimen:
I drink tons of water and exercise at least four times a week along with healthy eating. I feel those components help the radiance of your skin. I also wash my face both morning and night. I use Rx for brown skin also as maintenance for healthy looking skin. I also go to the barber shop every two weeks for a cut.

Embracing Her Natural Beauty:
I truly embraced my natural beauty back on January 31, 2010 when I took a pair of my own scissors to my hair. Yes, I performed my own big chop and my husband shaped it with his clippers. I decided to go back natural because I was just tired and wanted to get more in touch with Tanaka. I was tired of my hair shedding and appearing thin when I got retouches. Before cutting the permed ends out of my hair, I had just removed my micro braids and could see what I thought was two different textures. I was so fascinated at the thickness of my roots versus the stringy relaxed ends that I went to chopping. When women speak on the experience as freeing, the analogy does not do it justice. I had been getting relaxers from as far back as I can remember so I never knew what my “real texture” was, let alone how it would look on me. But I loved it and have not looked back since.

Hair Regimen:
My current routine involves co-washing my hair once a week, spritzing my hair with water every night (to retain moisture) and either bantu-knotting or re-twisting my hair. I cover with a satin scarf, as most of us do, and retire for the night. I always use oil on my hands to unravel my hair in the morning, fluff and go! I must admit I hardly ever deep condition my hair because my staple product is conditioner. So I have conditioner on my hair day-in and day-out, which keeps it soft and manageable.

Embracing Her Natural Beauty:
My mom chose to keep us natural because of her own past negative experiences with relaxers. Relaxers damaged and thinned out mom’s hair and she didn’t want that for me (us). Also after seeing so many other beautiful naturalistas around the world, embracing my natural just comes natural and it’s cool. Its also healthy for self esteem and total person.

Hair Regimen:
I wash my hair every other week. I also deep condition during this time Afterwards, I style my hair using my moms homemade Shea mango butter mix. I then put my hair in twists for a twistout.

Hair Regimen:
My mommy washes my hair every two to three weeks.

Mommy also deep conditions right after washing. Then it’s on to detangling, moisturizing, and styling in my signature twists. Wearing twists is a great way to protective style and I am able to wear my hair in different ways.

Age: 40’s

Embracing Her Natural Beauty:
I’ve embraced my natural beauty recently. I am actually in transition, because I did not want to proceed with the “Big Chop.” I am convinced, since meeting and working with Ms. Leola Anifowoshe. that hair will be and can be much healthier without chemical processing.  I am excited to embark on this journey, and participate in a much healthier lifestyle.

Hair Regimen:
I maintain my look by eating healthy, exercising and using essential oils to maintain my hairstyle. I understand that by maintaining a healthy lifestyle inside is the common denominator to achieve my maintenance goal.
