Getting PinFit – Staying Motivated to Exercise

Its now the middle of February and chances are that the motivation of your New Years resolution has worn off, so below are a few tips that may help you stick to your resolution and help you reach your goals.

1. Change your way of thinking…

Change your way of thinking from bump on a log to world class athlete. I know it sounds easier said than done, but it isn’t as hard as you think either. Chances are that you’ve gotten complacent and are now hiding behind your home or work life as a reason you can’t make it to exercise. What you don’t realize is that someone is looking at everything you do, whether it be your kids or an associate of yours. World class athletes don’t use work, fatigue or having to cook dinner as an excuse as to why that can’t work on making a better version of themselves, so neither should you.

2. Set realistic goals

There is nothing that is more motivating or scary than conquering your first mud run, marathon or fitness competition; check out some dates, circle it on the calendar and register at least 6 months in advance. Now that you’re registered, stick to and continually execute your exercise program. For a little added motivation, schedule your event around the time of a nice tropical vacation that will require a bikini or swimming trunks for the guys; there’s nothing like having a flat tummy on a white sand blue water beach!

3. Schedule your workouts

Most athletes typically schedule their workouts  either before the sun comes up or after work.   Sit down and check your schedule and map out a time that best fits your lifestyle. Here’s something that you probably have never thought about – instead of sitting in traffic after work, try joining a local gym close to work and spend that hour being productive by exercising and  not wasting an hour looking at tail lights trying to get home.

4. Have fun, think variety

Treadmill, dumbbells, treadmill, dumbbells, treadmill, dumbbells…. We as humans need some type of variety. We also need to have fun even while working out. These days local parks have free-standing equipment for you to use to workout, and if they don’t, get creative! Even something as simple as dancing can take the place of doing regular old boring cardio.

5. 2’s company, 3’s even better

There’s nothing like having an exercise partner or group to help you push yourself to the next level. Try classes or setting aside time with a friend to workout together.  Not only is it motivating, but it will help hold you accountable with every aspect of your goal. Even consider a social networking site with like-minded individuals or hire a fitness professional.

I hope these tips have been helpful.. Have a great workout!!!
