Massage therapy is one of the most powerful aids in a health and wellness regimen and one of the least used. There is absolutely no denying the power of bodywork, no matter the adjective you use to describe it – rejuvenating, pampering, luxury treat, stress reliever; it all means the same thing.
I recently spoke to a massage therapist by the name of Karen Walters who has over 13 years experience in massage therapy and also is a registered nurse. She explained to me just how important it is to receive some type of therapeutic massage therapy on a regular basis.
Karen shared with me that massage therapy is for people of all ages. Although it benefits the injured and ill and the stressed out working mom and/or dad, the real strength of massage therapy is to prevent illnesses and conditions before they can develop.
She went on to explain that massage therapy is commonly used to treat both acute and chronic stages of many different conditions. These benefits include increased blood circulation, promotion of clearer channels for nervous system function, strengthening of the immune system, reduction of high blood pressure, and even improvement in one’s mood, job performance, intellectual responses and reasoning! Still unsure about what this has to do with you?
Here are a few scenarios with potential benefits:
Increase blood circulation: With an increase in blood circulation the body becomes more efficient at repairing itself after a very strenuous work out or injury; this also allows for a decreased healing time and less pain.
Promotes clearer channels for nervous system function: Have you ever had to make a split decision? Massage therapy can decrease your reaction time; this becomes extremely useful in traffic where danger is sure to lurk.
Strengthen the immune system: Who doesn’t want to get over a cold or the flu sooner or maybe not even catch it for that matter?
Reduces high blood pressure: Stroke, kidney failure, heart failure, coronary disease, and aneurysms are ALL dangers of high blood pressure!
Improved mood: Who wants to be mad all the time? Don’t worry, be happy!! Get a message!
Intellectual responses and reasoning: You never know when you’ll have to negotiate a multi-billion-dollar business deal! Or at least the purchase of a new car.
Job performance: Better performance equals better pay!
The above are simply scenarios, but very well could happen in real life. How would one of those events make you feel? Or how about all of them? So, as you can see, there could possibly be a chain reaction of events by simply receiving some type of massage therapy on a regular basis.
Be sure to find someone in your area who is trustworthy and has respectable credentials. If you or anybody you know is ever out in the Missouri City, Texas area, be sure to look up Karen Walters and contact her with questions about massage therapy and what other benefits they have, she is a great resource.
