The National Football League is past the midway point this season, and still has a short list of Teams holding on to a perfect record going into week 9. Two of the four names on the short list are to be expected, while the remaining two are definitely a surprise.
Now here’s how EM Sports sees it at the midway point:
The 7-0 New England Patriots had no problems at home where they handily took care of the Miami Dolphins. Going into week nine, Tom Brady and the Patriots continue to lead the NFL in points-per-game; averaging 35.6. Brady threw for 4 more TD passes as he continues on his pace for setting yet another QB stats record. The Patriots’ defense continues to show up for every game holding the Dolphins to just 7 points in the most recent match up. It’s not hard to see why the Patriots remain the odds-on favorite to repeat as Superbowl Champs.
Next Three Weeks Line-up: Redskins (3-4); Giants (4-4); Bills (3-4).
The 7-0 Denver Broncos riding on the shoulders of their stiff defense came off a bye-week to face the undefeated Green Bay Packers. The Denver defense did not disappoint holding Aaron Rogers and the Packers offense to a meager 77 yards passing and 140 total yards. The real Peyton Manning offense finaly showed up just at the right time, and dominated the Packers’ defense. With their decisive win over Green Bay, Denver continues to be on a more certain pathway to staying perfect in the win column.
Next Three Weeks Line-up: Colts (3-4); Chiefs (3-5); Bears (2.5).
The 7-0 Carolina Panthers‘ offense, on the legs and arm of Cam Newton (a Top-tier Leader), continue their winning ways. But their stingy defense was tested once again by the Indianapolis Colts on Monday night. But, to their credit, the Panthers won in one extremely important category; turnovers. Carolina’s overtime win over the Colts is indicative of how determined and driven they are this year to a person to remain undefeated. Indeed, it will probably be hard for Carolina to keep winning the close ones, yet they continue to pull it off. Get ready for another “Game of the Week” because the Panthers’ next opponent is the bruised 6-1 Green Bay Packers.
Next Three Weeks Line-up: Packers (6-1); Titans (1-6); Redskins (3-4).
The 7-0 Cincinnati Bengals came off their bye-week this past Sunday and won a hard fought game against the Pittsburgh Steelers. The Bengals stiff defense proved once again that they are a force to be reckoned with. However, on paper, the Bengals were outplayed by Pittsburgh except in one key category; turnovers. With the close win over the Steelers, Cincinnati is probably looking forward to the next few opponents. Can they remain among the undefeated? Perhaps the seemingly resurgent defense of the Houston Texans might have something to say about that. Only time will tell.
Next Three Weeks Line-up: Browns (2-6); Texans (3-5); Rams (4-3).
