The National Football League started the 2015 season with 32 undefeated teams. Now after six weeks of regular season play, the number of undefeated is down to five. Your usual suspects are on the short list: New England Patriots, Denver Broncos and Green Bay Packers. But, the noticeable surprise teams are the Carolina Panthers and Cincinnati Bengals. Go figure.
Now here’s how EM Sports sees it:
The 5-0 New England Patriots are simply out-scoring opponents. In fact, Tom Brady is “On a Mission” and on fire through the first five games. Plus the Patriots’ defense is definitely no push over. This pedigree Superbowl driven dynasty remain the odds-on favorite to run the table and go undefeated.
Next Three Weeks Line-up: Jets (4-1); Dolphins (2-3); Redskins (2-4).
The 6-0 Denver Broncos are riding on the shoulders of their stiff defense just about every game thus far waiting on the Peyton Manning offense to find their A-game. Since defenses win close games, Denver clearly has an outside chance of staying perfect in the win column in the weeks ahead.
Next Three Weeks Line-up: Bye week; Packers (6-0); Colts (3-3).
The 6-0 Green Bay Packers survived a first game scare, but are now finding their stride with a balanced offensive and defensive attack. Plus, it is hard to bet against the winning ways of QB Aaron Rogers on any given Sunday or Monday Night game. Indeed, the Packers are very strong candidates to stay undefeated throughout the course of the season.
Next Three Weeks Line-up: Bye week; Broncos (6-0); Panthers (5-0).
The 5-0 Carolina Panthers‘ offense, on the legs and arm of Cam Newton, continues to do just enough week-in and week-out to win. Of course their top tier defense has a lot to do with their undefeated record thus far. But, it will probably be hard for Carolina to keep winning the close ones. The ball is bound to bounce one too many times against them.
Next Three Weeks Line-up: Eagles (2-3); Colts (3-3); Packers (6-0).
The 6-0 Cincinnati Bengals have been good over the past few years for getting off to a fast start but fading towards season’s end, so its not clear whether this year will be any different. Yet, their excellent talent in skill positions on both sides of the pigskin is obvious. This indeed might be the Bengals breakout year for defeating all takers and winning it all.
Next Three Weeks Line-up: Bye week; Steelers (4-2); Browns (2-4).
