Wanderlust has journeyed its way into the Black popularity and it’s not easing up…statistics have proven that. In 2013, The Neilson Company, reported that Black travel and tourism is a $40 billion industry, a number that has increased over the past two years. However, there are still quite a few wannabe travelers that still find the task of finding the right destination, what to do, or even when to plan a trip somewhat daunting. But thanks to this list of popular travel accounts on Instagram, those disconcerting feelings can now be put to rest…
Soul Society 101 – Founded by Rondel Holder, its CEO and Creative Director, as an avid traveler for business, Rondel made the platform Soul Society 101 to share his travel and food experiences. Soul Society 101’s Instagram page with a focus on cuisine and culture, along with travel, will have your mouth watering and ready to pack your bags, and dart across the world to try surf and turf in Aruba or maybe even take a stroll underwater in Dubai. Either way over 20,000 followers would agree, that you can’t go wrong with giving Soul Society 101 a follow for your next adventure.
Blackadventuristas – Whatever you could possibly dream of doing in your wildest dreams, trust me, these sisters have done it! Although, Blackadventuristas is mistaken to be a travel platform by onlookers, as clarified by it’s curator, Veronica Garnett, it is an adventure platform. “We are adventuristas who happen to travel, not travelistas who happen to do adventurous things. We seek adventure opportunities wherever we are, that means close to home too.” If the adrenaline rush of hang gliding over the coastal waters of Royal National Park in Australia or white water rafting right on the Ocoee River in Tennessee tickles your adventurous travel fancy, then look no further and follow Blackadventuristas.
Travelisthenewclub – When the same ol’ same club scene or life itself has become mundane and boring, you can boogie your scrolling fingers over to the Instagram page of Travelisthenewclub. The founder of Travelisthenewclub and fellow Houstonian, Lewis Williams, was a young professional that realized it was time to upgrade his lifestyle itinerary and over 13,000 followers agreed. Travelisthenewclub also focuses on group trips. For those that are ready to step away from the common happy hour afterwork scene, then take a relaxing break in Thailand or share a fresh coconut in Haiti…Travelisthenewclub will guide you there.
Nomadness Travel Tribe – The one woman pioneer, Evita Robinson, has been to over twenty countries and lived on three different continents, and observed that there just wasn’t a place or a voice to speak for and connect Black travelers and likeminded individuals. Nomadness Travel Tribe, with now an astonishing group of over 10,000 members, was the first of its kind, a platform that targeted a diverse group of millennial travelers. Tribe members share stories, photos, and even give advice, that will confidently have you set for your next trip. In the words of Ms.Evita, from a recent article in The New York Times,“We’re here, we’re taking our stake, we’re planting our flag and we’re very unapologetic about it.” Get those passport stamps up and give the Nomadness Travel Tribe a follow.
Travel Noire – The thought of traveling across the world to venture into unfamiliar lands and see unfamiliar faces can intimidate some, but founder, Zim Ugochukwu, created Travel Noire, a community of savvy Black travelers to give insight and inspiration to journey into the unknown. Over 100,000 Instagram followers are provided with tools and resources on how to plan and make the best experiences when traveling local and abroad. Travel Noire is the go to site if your trying to figure out how to backpack through Europe on a budget, or even want to be ready to catch the next flight glitch fare on sites like The Flight Deal. Does a round trip flight glitch ticket from Houston to South Africa for 250 bucks give you jet set fever? You know what to do, tap Follow for Travel Noire.
