Over the course of his football career, William Dominic Austin, tackled more than 400 opponents and was known for making his presence felt on the gridiron. When he heard the words ‘You have cancer,’ he realized that tackling cancer would be the most significant tackle of his life.

Austin is founder of www.Tackles4Cancer, a 501(c)3 non-profit organization that assists cancer patients in need of financial assistance while battling cancer. A former player with the Indianapolis Colts, he was diagnosed with non-Hodgkins lympohoma in May 2014 and is now a cancer survivor (Jan. 2015).

On Friday Dec. 18 Tackles4Cancer will host its 2nd Annual “Black Tie” Christmas Fundraiser, Christmas4Acause, 8 p.m. – 1 a.m., Dec. 18 at Marque, 798 Sorella Court, Ste. 225, Houston, Texas 77024. The event will feature hors doeuvres, a silent auction, toy drive and various sports memorabilia with funds raised benefitting MD Anderson and Texas Children’s Hospital.

“We have agreed to adopt three families that have been impacted by cancer for Christmas at Texas Children’s Hospital (BMT) and we are also donating toys to M.D. Anderson,” said Austin.

The nonprofit organization partners with communities and sports teams by committing to donate a dollar amount per tackle, assist, point etc. The proceeds are donated to patients that need assistance to win the fight against cancer.

An ambassador of Beyoncé’s humanitarian foundation, Bey Good, Austin has impacted the lives of over 60 patients while successfully partnering with leading Houston-area cancer facilities, including Texas Children’s Hospital, M.D. Anderson and St. Luke’s through his nonprofit organization.

The Grammy-award winning singer features a story on her website that highlights Austin’s medical journey and expresses appreciation to the former NFL player for “being not only an inspiration to those close to you, but to committing to being a fighter for yourself and others.”

Event sponsors include the Houston Astros, NCAA Final Four, Brian Urlacher, Catfish Station, Alva Wesley-Thomas & Associates and Once Upon A Praline.

A $20.00 online donation is required to attend.
