City of Houston honors gospel singer Earnest Pugh

Monday, May 15, 2017 – City of Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner honored award-winning gospel singer, Dr. Earnest Pugh for reaching the top 10 on the Billboard charts with his hit single, “I Need You To Breathe.” The single marks Dr. Pugh’s 11th Billboard chart topper.

Amber Shaw of KYND 1520 and national radio personality Lonnie Hunter hosted the red carpet experience featuring several familiar faces, including Pastor Kim Burrell, Author Carlos Wallace, Gospel Singer Nikki Ross, Sky Houston of Majic 102.1 FM, Miss Mykie of BET, former Houston Texan’s Player Mister Alexander, The Musicians’ Wives, Congresswoman Shelia Jackson Lee, Earnest Walker of KTSU 90.9, Jonathan Martin of Fox 26, Mayor Sylvester Turner and the man of the hour, Dr. Earnest Pugh.

Over 250 guest were in attendance to witness Turner present a proclamation to Pugh for his achievements in the gospel industry. Pugh also was surprised with a second proclamation from Congresswoman Shelia Jackson Lee.

Emcees Jonathan Martin and Kim Burrell welcomed special guest, gospel singer, Kathy Taylor who performed a plethora of songs which left guests standing on their feet in awe.  Terrence Hartford paid tribute to Pugh who also shared his experiences as an award-winning gospel singer. After thanking Mayor Turner, Kira Pugh (daughter), Earnistine Pugh (sister), Keith Williams (manager), Janice Weaver (City of Houston), and others, Pugh premiered his new music video for “I Need You to Breathe.” The event concluded with Pugh singing a special song with gospel artist, Nikki Ross.
