Crumb Scene Investigates Labor Day Grilled Chicken Sandwiches

Labor Day is truly the last of the summer season and into fall we go. Let’s celebrate with an easy grilled chicken recipe that has some refreshing flavors. We start by marinating our chicken in some lime juice, garlic and Serrano peppers. Grill them to perfection and put on your favorite buns and top with some guacamole. If you don’t feel like grilling outdoors and have a grill pan, this recipe still works. I like to serve it with a smoky spicy potato salad. Let get to it!


1 lb of thin chicken breast
Zest of 1 lime
Juice of 1 lime
2 garlic cloves, minced
2 tbsp of olive oil
1 Serrano pepper or jalapeño
2 tbsp fresh cilantro, minced
Salt and pepper
4-6 Hamburger buns


If your chicken breasts are thick and long, split in half length-wise and cut in half to fit the size of the buns you are using (optional). In a large bowl or gallon-sized plastic freezer bag, place the zest, lime juice, Serrano, cilantro, garlic, and oil. Season chicken with salt and pepper and place in bowl and cover with marinade and add a little more salt and pepper. Cover and place in refrigerator and marinate for at least 30 minutes up to 4 hours. Prepare your grill or grill pan and grill the chicken until fully cooked (flipping and grilling on both sides). Remove from grill and let your chicken rest for 5 minutes then place on buns. Add your favorite toppings pepper, cheese, and salsa and enjoy.
