Black Panther set box office records on its opening weekend as movie-goers filled theaters for the much- anticipated Marvel Comic release.
Distributed by Buena Vista-Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures, the film, being described as a monster hit, grossed $201.7 million in its opening weekend debut and is expected to exceed $235 million gross for the four-day weekend topping Jurassic Park’s $234.1 million four-day opening weekend gross, according to Box Office Mojo.
Directed by Ryan Coogler, the action, sci-fi adventure, starring Chadwick Boseman and Michael B. Jordan along with stellar cast members Lupita Nyongo, Forrest Whitaker, Angela Bassett, Sterling K. Brown, Daniel Kaluuya and Letitia Wright, has received rave reviews, scoring a 97% on Rotten Tomatoes Tomatometer making it the highest rated action movie film ever in the movie review site’s history.
The film centers on T’Challa who returns home after the death of his father to the African nation of Wakanda to take his rightful place as king. T’Challa’s mettle as king — and as Black Panther — gets tested when when a powerful enemy suddenly reappears and he is drawn into a conflict that puts the fate of Wakanda and the entire world at risk. Faced with treachery and danger, the young king must rally his allies and release the full power of Black Panther to defeat his foes and secure the safety of his people
