Oprah to make first-ever ESSENCE Festival appearance

Empower Magazine on the scene for history-making Oprah appearance

TIME Inc.’s 2016 ESSENCE Festival in New Orleans just announced that Oprah will join the line-up of empowering celebrities and performers at this year’s festival according to organizers in a recent press release.

The announcement marks the first time in the festival’s 21-year history that the media powerhouse will attend the festival which kicks off today, June 30 and runs through Sunday, July 3.

Oprah will make her appearance at 4 p.m. on July 2 (Saturday) at the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center.  She will join other noted celebrities, including T.D. Jakes, Ava DuVernay, Rev. Al Sharpton, Misty Copeland and Tyra Banks.

Tickets are still available for this four-day cultural empowerment experience as ESSENCE showcases numerous workshops, festivities and performances, including Phaedra Parks, Cookie Johnson, actress Patina Miller and the cast of The Real, and others, who will take to the ESSENCE Empowerment Experience stage to share a wealth of wisdom and experiences.

The festival will feature performances by Maxwell (Friday, Mariah Carey (Saturday) and round up on Sunday with performances from Kendrick Lamar, Puff Daddy & the Family—including Faith Evans, Mase, French Montana and 112 and will culminate with an epic New Orleans-themed 2016 Essence Festival Logotribute to Prince.
