Usher will take the stage  Friday night, March 7, to perform at the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo’s Black Heritage Night.

The Tennessee-born native has come a long way since an appearance on Star Search brought him to the attention of a representative of LaFace Records who arranged a meeting with music producer L.A. Reid.

The rest, as they say, is history, as Usher has carved out an illustrious music career and come full circle as he uses his musical skills to discover aspiring artists in his role as a celebrity judge on NBC’s “The Voice.”

His performance marks the first time the eight-time Grammy-winning artist will perform at the rodeo, according to the HLSR website.

This week’s RodeoHouston line-up of entertainment will round out with performances by Chris Young as he takes the stage at 3:45 p.m. on Saturday and Selena Gomez at 3:45 p.m. on Sunday.
