The Congressional Black Caucus Foundation (CBCF) will honor Cicely Tyson, Richard Roundtree and Dionne Warwick with Lifetime Achievement Awards at the 20th Annual Celebration of Leadership in the Fine Arts. Award-winning actor Chadwick Boseman also will be recognized with the Trendsetter Award.
The awards ceremony is one of the many events hosted by the Foundation during the 46th Annual Legislative Conference. Awards are conferred on artists whose legacies include not only extraordinary work but a commitment to cultivating future generations of artists.
The ceremony, hosted by actress Malinda Williams (of Soul Food) and guest presenter, Donnie Simpson, kicks off with a VIP reception/red carpet on Sept. 14 from 6:30 – 7:45 p.m.
VIP attendees include Dr. Maya Rockeymoore Cummings, CBC spouse and chair of the Celebration of Leadership in the Fine Arts; A. Shuanise Washington, president/CEO of CBCF along with CBC members of Congress and spouses, celebrity guests and more.
Since 1996, the Celebration of Leadership in the Fine Arts has raised funds to support the CBC Spouses Visual and Performing Arts Scholarship Fund. Twenty scholarships are awarded annually to highly qualified students pursuing undergraduate degrees in the arts, based on their creative talent, academic excellence, financial need and community service. Two of this year’s scholarship recipients, vocalist Lindsey Reynolds, and Justin Syas, a pianist, will perform during the event.
The sponsors for this year’s Celebration of Leadership in the Fine Arts include Union Pacific Corporation, as the title sponsor, Heineken USA, ASPiRE and UP TV.
