It was a glorious night for Common and John Legend as the song “Glory” from the movie “Selma” won the Oscar for “Best Original Song’ at Sunday night’s  87th Academy Awards ceremony at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood.

Preceding the announcement of their win, the pair took to the stage for a powerful performance of the song backed by a chorus depicting the passionate civil rights protesters who marched across the Edmund Pettus Bridge in Selma, Ala.

The powerful anthem brought actor David Oyelowo, who portrayed Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. in the historic movie, and others, to tears as Common and John Legend brought the lyrics and mood of the civil rights era to life on stage.
