Bilal Sayeed Oliver, known musically simply as, “Bilal,” is on a global tour with his fifth album entitled, “In Another Life.” The album released in June 2015 to the fervor of fans eager to hear the iconic artist back at what he does best.

Bilal grew up in Philadelphia, Pa., absorbing a deep love of jazz music from his father who would often take him to jazz clubs. This passion grew into a career after he attended New York’s New School for Jazz and Contemporary Music where he received formal jazz training. His debut album, 2001’s 1st Born Second was well received, and his subsequent music projects attracted an eclectic mix of followers, but in 2010 he released another chart-topping album, A Love Surreal. That album was a commercial success winning over both fans and critics alike, debuting at No. 1 on iTunes’ R&B Chart and ranking in the top 20 on Billboard’s Independent Albums Chart and R&B Albums Chart. Garnering rave reviews from top media platforms such as SPIN Magazine, Allmusic, and USA Today, it was undeniable that Bilal had a sound that transcended time.

Bilal has been esteemed by artists worldwide and has appeared on tracks by industry giants such as Common, Erykah Badu, Jay-Z, Beyoncé, Robert Glasper, The Roots, and many more. He most recently lent his voice to Kendrick Lamar’s album To Pimp A Butterfly appearing on multiple tracks, including “Institutionalized” and “These Walls,” and he appeared on MSNBC’s Melissa Harris-Perry show.

Watch the video interview as chart-topping artist Bilal chats exclusively with Empower Magazine about his new album, classic hits like “Soul Sista” and “Sometimes,” his autistic son and music that moves his soul. For more info visit
