My wife and I just returned from an extremely enjoyable and well deserved 7-day vacation with family. We decided to take a road trip from Missouri City, Texas (southwest Houston) to Reunion, Fla. near Orlando to celebrate our 36th wedding anniversary.

While planning our cross country excursion to Reunion, we realized that it would probably be a good idea to stop about halfway for an overnight stay. Halfway turned out to be somewhere in the state of Mississippi.

My normal activity when traveling is to go online to get discounted prices on airline tickets, rental cars and hotels. It was no different this time. I went online and booked the best quality room prices I could find along our route for a party of seven. The total for 3 rooms with taxes came to approximately $226.00.

The week prior to boarding our 9-passenger vacation van, I was riding home with a friend from church. I shared with him my upcoming vacation plans. Since we were both retired military, he saw fit to share with me the great accommodations his family recently enjoyed at the Navy Lodge in Gulfport, Miss. at a very affordable price.img_2376

I checked it out and was pleasantly surprised to discover that I could book a family suite that sleeps six for $100.00 with no taxes. Plus, the rate included a continental breakfast. Wow!

But, before settling on the Navy Lodge, I learned that Keesler Air Force Base in Biloxi, Miss. was further east which was a little closer to our Florida destination. The room rate for a family suite that sleeps six at Keesler (Inns of Keesler) was just $63.00 with no taxes. No continental breakfast, but a savings of $27.00 on lodging and a little closer to the Reunion Resort in Florida – Done deal.

However, coming back after a 2-day excursion to The Holy Land Experience, fine dining with family, spa and masseuse, golfing, a day at the resort water park, we stopped halfway and stayed overnight at the Navy Lodge, and were not disappointed. The accommodations were excellent.
