Multi-Grammy Award-winning gospel artist, Yolanda Adams, received a special honor at the 2019 Soul Train Awards Sunday night as recipient of ‘The Lady of Soul Award’ for her contributions to Gospel music throughout her career.

The Houston-born native’s vocal talent has won her acclaim in the Gospel industry and has provided her a platform to minister to audiences around the world. Adams was lauded for her music during the Soul Train Awards Performance segment of the awards show, performing a selection of her celebrated Gospel hits, including “Only Believe,” “Victory,” “Open My Heart,” “The Battle is the Lord’s,” “In the Midst of It All,” and more.

Gospel artist Kirk Franklin, who won the night’s Best Gospel/Inspirational Award, described Adams as an artist who “reeks soul, spirit, style and soft swag” in a special tribute aired during the awards show. Multi-Grammy Award-winning singer, Patty Labelle, also shared her sentiments during the special tribute, calling Adams “truly anointed and one of the best singers in the world,” followed by praise from singer/songwriter Monica who added that Adams “does not open her mouth and say anything she does not believe” and her music gives you “a sense of hope and desire to be better.”

Locally, Adams recently began broadcasting her popular, nationally-syndicated “Yolanda Adams Morning Show” on KTSU 90.9 FM on the campus of her alma mater, Texas Southern University (TSU), along with co-host Marcus Wiley, a fellow TSU alum.

The awards show aired Sunday night, Nov. 17 on BET.
