A former law enforcement professional turned playwright, Rhonda Williams, recently showcased her first stage play with the release of “When Love Finds You,” a play that shines the spotlight on the journey of three women as they navigate through the often-explosive minefield of personal relationships.

In two, dramatic acts, Williams, founder of R. Renee Productions, gives the audience an inside look at the dysfunction and misguided decisions of three friends who share a special bond, but find themselves each dealing with emotional turmoil in their family life and personal relationships.

Williams wrote and produced the play and brought her vision to life on stage at the Ensemble Theatre in two sold-out performances with the help of a gifted ensemble cast of local actors, and the support of directors, Willie Sallie and Don Dotson.

The play introduces the audience to April, May, and June, a trio of characters who are as different as night and day, yet their enduring friendship is the cement that binds them together through one’s tumultuous affair, another’s indecisiveness on leaving an abusive relationship, and another’s combative relationship with a rebellious daughter.

The authentic dialogue and intense, emotion-packed scenes made it hard to believe that this was Williams’ first play as she seamlessly blended a perfect mix of humor, drama, intrigue, and unexpected twists and turns into each entertaining act, captivating the audience and leaving them on the edge of their seats from start to finish. She also showed how faith became the grounding force that led each character back from the edge of the cliff of their own poor decisions.

Initially inspired to write the play in response to her concerns with her own mother-daughter relationships, Williams later developed the desire to use the play as a platform to depict a range of relational issues that women encounter.

“When I reflect on my experiences, I am thankful for each of them, whether good or bad. Every relationship in my life has helped me to become the woman I am today. My strength, determination, and ideas have turned my dreams into reality as a result of my past and present relationships,” shares Williams in the play’s program book.

“When Love Finds You” is a must-see stageplay that takes the audience on an emotion-filled journey of the ups and downs of relationships and depicts the unintended consequences of poor decisions that almost cause the main characters to miss out on the kind of love that is truly worth finding.

Williams credits God for guiding her into a new season in her life as a burgeoning playwright and placing the right people in her life, at the right time, to bring her vision to life. She also expressed appreciation to The Houston Police Officers’ Union (HPOU) and Afro-American Police Officers’ League (AAPOL) for their generous support, as well as Edward Jones Investments and McCoy & Harrison Funeral Home.

If this is what audiences have to look forward to in a R. Renee Production, the stage is set for a promising future for this gifted playwright.
