Houston’s Chef Rey Darthard, better known as Chef Rey, has enjoyed an illustrious career as a celebrity chef, the first executive chef to three of Houston’s  professional sports teams and personal chef to elite athletes in basketball, baseball, football and soccer and has served the culinary needs of numerous organizations, customers, family, and friends.

He announced the official release of his latest cook book, “The Power of Food: 20 Years, 20 Recipes, and 20 Friends,” at a special book signing on June 18 hosted at the Niels Esperson Building in Downtown Houston celebrating his 20-year culinary journey.

The celebrated chef gathered 300 of his closest customers and friends at a lavish event featuring a Texas-size Grand Buffet of delicious foods and a diverse array of his desserts, including his signature, award-winning cheesecake. The event was emceed by Dr. CleRenda McGrady and included speeches from NBA Hall of Famer Tracy McGrady, former Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner and a host of other friends who have traveled with him on his culinary journey over the past two decades.

“I truly love being a chef. Every day I am blessed to use my imagination to discover new original ideas by unleashing my creative energy,” shared Chef Rey.

Throughout his career he has held the strong belief that “Food” holds “Power,” and credits it as “the true celebrity” in his career.

“I have come to realize that we have more in common with each other than we think, and the common thread that connects us universally is through food – now that is Power. After 20 years, as an executive chef, I know it is my Ministry to connect people through the Power of Food,” said the Freeport-born native.

The event culminated with special presentations to his family who have supported and celebrated him on his journey. For Chef Rey, the cookbook is more than a cookbook, but a celebration of 20 years of faith, fellowship and friends.
