Movie Review: Masters of the Air

Masters of the Air, a new nine-episode mini-series streaming on Apple TV+, is an absolute masterpiece. Hats off to Steven Spielberg, Tom Hanks, Gary Goetzman, and the cast of many who collaborated in creating what is sure to become a World War series classic.

The brilliance in which the mini-series captures “the good, the bad and the ugly” sides to any war or conflict is unparalleled, only to be outdone by spectacular and emotionally riveting aerial cinematography. The harsh realities and perils that air crews and pilots faced during literally every air mission are masterfully presented by way of captivatingly real visual effects.

To its credit, Masters of the Air is incredibly effective in providing a comprehensive historical depiction of war from the air in WWII. One among many illustrations of this is its inclusion of the highly touted Tuskegee Airmen (Black P-51 fighter pilots) flying prowess and fearless exploits in the series.

The drama series is also successful in showing the humanity and inhumanity of mankind when faced with doing “whatever it takes” to win a war.

“I experienced a host of emotions while watching this spectacular WWII drama series brought on by the outstanding cast of gifted actors. My deepest emotional experiences were realized during the portrayal of the aerial combat which included the 100th Bomb Group (the ‘Bloody Hundredth’) as they conduct perilous bombing raids over Nazi Germany.”
