Houston-area native Crystle Stewart celebrated the debut of Tyler Perry’s new Netflix series “Beauty in Black” with a red carpet premiere celebration in her hometown following the official Atlanta premiere.

Proud supporters, Cynthia and Robert Stewart, opened the doors to their Missouri City home for a watch party in celebration of their daughter’s starring role in the episodic Netflix series.

Stewart portrays Mallory, a successful businesswoman and member of a wealthy cosmetics dynasty, whose life intersects with Kimmie, a young woman who is stripping for survival but seeking a new way of life. Season 1 of the new series raises the curtain on the contrasting lives of the two women, unveiling a connection in the world of trafficking that sets them on the path to survival.

In contrast to Stewart’s past roles as the soft-spoken “Leslie” in Tyler Perry’s “For Better or Worse” and the demure “Diana” in Acrimony, the character of “Mallory” allows Stewart to showcase her diverse acting skills and range as she brings the character to life in the gritty world of power, deceit and greed.

Supporters from near and far cheered Stewart on as the watch party began and Season 1 unfolded on the screen in the new Netflix series.

Filmed in Atlanta, Georgia and written, directed and produced by Tyler Perry in conjunction with producers Will Areau, Angi Bones and Tony Strickland, the 16-episode Netflix series follows the two women’s journeys as they become entangled in each other’s lives.

The ensemble cast also features Debbie Morgan as Olivia, Richard Lawson as Norman and Charles Malik Whitfield as Jules, along with a host of other performers.

The weekend following the show’s debut, the series ranked No. 1  out of the 10 Top TV shows on Netflix.

In a Facebook post days following the premiere, series creator, Tyler Perry, expressed appreciation to viewers and thanked the cast for their hard work on the series.

Perry, Tyler. (TylerPerry). “I don’t need a number to be grateful, but we are glad to have it. Thank you everyone. I am so proud of this cast! Congrats team “Beauty in Black”! Keep dreaming bigger!” Facebook, Oct. 27, 2024. https://m.facebook.com/story.php?story_fbid=1085787996248469&id=100044518355857. Accessed Oct. 27, 2004.
